The Anniversary Meeting was organized by the International Union of Economists
jointly with the Moscow City Government and Magistrate of Vienna with support of
the UN Economic and Social Council.

The main event of the Meeting's program was the Plenary session on the theme
«Economic problems of states' capitals» that was held in the City of Vienna in
the Imperial Palace Hofburg — the residence of the President of the Austrian
Republic. The welcoming speech to the participants of the Meeting was made by
the President of the International Union of Economists G.Kh. Popov: «The current
Plenary Session is dedicated to the momentous event: the twentieth anniversary
of the International Union of Economists' activity. It is especially notable
that the 2011 year is also opened with the significant jubilee — 20th
Anniversary of signing the Memorandum on Friendship and Cooperation between
Moscow and Vienna. Of course the choice of the city for holding the Meeting is
not accidental. In recent years Vienna has been deservedly recognized as one of
the most comfortable cities of the world. Obviously, it is reasonable to analyze
the experience of the Austrian capital and to apply it for the other states'
capitals' development».

During the Anniversary Meeting the wonderful tradition was continued. The

In the framework of the XX Anniversary Meeting were also held a number of
business meetings, discussions, round tables. The participants of the Meeting
visited the enterprises of the city of Vienna, recommended by the Magistrate of
Vienne. The enterprises were the following: ENERGYbase, «E-government», «Organization
of the city self-government», «Vienna Energy House» and «Wiener Linien». The
most innovative technologies are applied at these enterprises. During the
meetings the heads of these organizations shared their experience in applying
the energy saving technologies and effective methods of managing the industrial
and other resources.
The solemn state reception on behalf of the Burgomaster of the City of Vienna
and the President of the International Union of Economists were held during the
Meeting.
The documents formed according to the results of the Anniversary Meeting of
the International Union of Economists will be passed to the UN, UNESCO, Habitat,
mayors of states' capitals, the councils of the European Commission and other
organizations.
