On the 24th – 25th of October, 2008, in the Republic of Poland (Warsaw) the
IV Warsaw Conference “The Perspectives of the XXI Century – The Gordian Knots
and Alexandrian Solutions” took place.
Organizers of the Conference were: the Polish Ministry of Regional Development,
the Club of Rome and the Polish Economic Society.
Leading
scientists, politicians, representatives of big business structures and public
organizations from most of European countries participated in the Conference.
Speeches of welcome to the Conference were given by:
- Minister for Regional development of Poland Elzbieta Bienkowska;
- Chief of the Group of the Strategic Advisors to the Prime Minister Michal Boni;
- General Director of Regional Policy of the European Commission (TBC) Manfred
Beschel;
- Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Regional Development of the European
Parliament Jan Olbrucht;
- Representative of the International Future Programmes OECD Barrie Stevens;
- On behalf of President of the Free Economic Society of Russia Popov G.Kh.;
- President of the Polish Economic Society Elzbieta Maczynska;
- Chairman of the State Scientific Research Institution “Council on study of
productive forces” academician Granberg A.G.

From the International Union of Economists and the Free Economic Society of
Russia Head of Executive staff, member of the board of VEO of Russia Krasilnikov
A.V. took part in the work of the Conference.
The addresses were given by:
Elzbieta Maczynska – Professor, President of the Polish Economic Society;
Martin Lees – Secretary General of the Club of Rome;
Antoni Kuklinski – Professor, President of the Polish Association of the Club of
Rome;
Bruno Amoroso – associate professor of the University “Roskildie”, Denmark;
Krzysztof Rybinski – partner of the company “Ernst & Young”, Poland
and many others.
During the discussion at the Conference the next subjects were examined:
- New ways of the world development (Programme of the Club of Rome);
- Evolution in the 20th Century: lessons of history, formation and development
of economic systems and social strategies;
- Realities and perspectives of the 21st Century (Development of countries and
regions);
- Europe’s experience by the examples of Southern Italy, Eastern Germany and
Eastern Poland;
- Development of Poland in the 21st Century
etc.
In
present-day conditions an elaboration of an effective long-lasting programme of
regional development in globalization is taking on special significance.
Nowadays the process of globalization has an immense impact on all spheres of
activity and, first of all, on social and economic sphere. That is why the
holding of the Conference on such subject is an opportune and extremely
important initiative.
The IV Warsaw Conference “The Perspectives of the XXI Century – The Gordian
Knots and Alexandrian Solutions” will help to joint efforts of economists and
representatives of community to solve the problems of social and economic
spheres and to give assistance to economic and social progress.
At the Conference an analysis of existent problems was done and new effective
ways of its solution were suggested.
The results of economic discussions will contribute to the development of
international connections in the field of realization of wide-ranging projects
of the world economic development. |
