PRIORITY ACTIVITIES OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF ECONOMISTS
till 2011

The international community has entered the third millennium. Capital changes took place worldwide in social and political structures, economic doctrines of the states of all continents. The mankind is getting access to a vigorous impulse to the human creative potential.

Constantly widening economic cooperation is necessary to achieve main goals of development in the coming era - peace, justice, and prosperity. It means not only quantitative growth and extension of interactions but, mainly, creation of absolutely new forms of relations adequate for varied economic, social, political, cultural and other factors.

The United Nations believes that these purposes cannot be achieved without utmost democratization of mechanisms and means of approaching global problems, joint efforts of many countries, public social organizations, institutions and individuals.

It is important to find new forms of creative cooperation between states, organizations and that is more important between the persons - political and public figures, scientists, managers, bankers and entrepreneurs.

We are all responsible for confirming the principles of mankind dignity, justice and equality globally and we are responsible for all citizens of the Earth, especially for the children who have future ahead.

The International Union of Economists, devoted to high principles of democracy, will contribute to economic progress and social prosperity on our planet.

The International Union of Economists has a concrete and important role in the process of deepening cooperation in the field of social economy, science and technology.

Participants of the Annual Meeting of the Members of the International Union of Economists specified the following main priorities till 2011:

1. To continue strengthening cooperation between THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION, THE EUROPEAN UNION and other authoritative international organizations.

To increase the role of civil society is one of the most characteristic features of our epoch. The global management is not any more a priority of the governments. Widening of participation and strengthening of the influence of non-governmental organizations assist in strengthening democracy.

The public opinion is becoming one of the key factors, influencing intergovernmental and governmental policy. Participation of a wide circle of active persons, including the representatives of civil society has the important meaning for effective solution of global top priority tasks.

Under these conditions for the United Nations Organization to make creative contacts with civil society is not the issue of choice, but necessity. Such contacts are extremely important in order that the UN could better form the global priorities and mobilize all resources for solving urgent tasks.

The experience of cooperation, which has been accumulated by the International Union of Economists, confirms capabilities of non-governmental organizations, which serve structures of multilateral collaboration, to take the role of more effective instruments to realize wide-scale projects and programmes of development.

2. To joint efforts of economists for solving the tasks to OVERCOME THE GAP IN THE LEVELS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF RICH AND POOR COUNTRIES UNDER CONDITIONS OF GLOBALIZATION. At present, the main task is to provide that globalization should become the positive factor for all the people in the world. It is related to the fact that globalization opens wide opportunities but the wealth it brings, is not adequately distributed. Developing countries and the countries with economy in transition are facing special difficulties. Collective wide-scale and persistent efforts are necessary to form the common future, which would correspond to the demands of all countries, including developing countries and countries with economy in transition.

3. To use the principles of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT for forming the basis of scientific and technical progress, providing for a high quality of life and spirituality of population, strengthening of national and international economic security by elaboration and realization of the programmes in the following spheres:

  • Industrial policy;
  • Agriculture;
  • Investment policy;
  • Innovation programmes;
  • Demographic issues;
  • Economic security.

It is to be headed by careful and responsible attitude to the nature in all ecological activity.

4. To support and develop YOUTH PROGRAMMES, giving the young people the real chance to find their proper place in the modern world. To educate citizens, who take care about social and economic prosperity of the planet.

5. To continue the work, aimed at the DEVELOPMENT OF THE CREATIVE COOPERATION WITH NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS, expanding geography of activities of the International Union of Economists, by opening new IUE branches, affiliates in different regions, and by rendering necessary assistance to the representations of the International Union of Economists.
