During the period from 4 to 11 January, 2008 annual
XVII Meeting of Members of International Union of Economists took place in Aqaba,
Jordan Hashemite Kingdom.
On the plenary session held on the 6th of January, 2008 in the hotel "International
Aqaba" there was thoroughly studied the theme
 "Energetics
of Future: economies problems".
Ms Michele Fedoroff, Deputy of the Non-Governmental Organizations Section UN/DESA
of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), officials of municipal organs of
Aqaba, representatives of Embassy of Russian Federation in Jordan, IUE members
from different countries took part in the Meeting. The Annual Meeting of Members
of IUE was opened by Mr. Roumen Gueorguiev, Vice-President of
International Union of Economists (Bulgaria).
In the opening address Mr. Gueorguiev has noted that the theme of the Meeting is
very actual, universal, touching the problems of world community in general,
every country and every person individually. The country held the annual Meeting,
Jordan Hashemite Kingdom at present represents a dynamically developing state,
known not only by unique ancient historical monuments but also by the experience
of applying innovative economic methods. Today on the territory of Jordan whole
range of huge investment projects of international significance is being held.
Taking into consideration energy branch of economy of Jordan, it should be
underlined that it is one of the leading countries of the Near East which makes
investigations of new forms of energy development, introduction of alternative
energy resources. Particularly Jordan has uranium reserves which allows the
country to set a question on perspectives of nuclear energy development in
peaceful aims.
