questions of regional development.
Congress is
held in Montreux (Switzerland) and the participants are accommodated in one of
the oldest and the most beautiful hotels: Le Montreux Palace, located on Lake
Geneva bank surrounded by snowy Alps. Famous people like Strauss and Nabokov
etc., resided in that hotel. For a years of hotel existence peculiar traditions
of receiving guests and giving reception were formed, and owing to this
invariably recently congress is held just in Montreux Palace. Traditionally the
Congresses keep an eye on the questions concerning the condition and the
development perspectives of Russian economy.
XII
International congress was held from April 5 to 10, 2007 and was dedicated to
the discussion of problem: "Sustainable development of the medium and big towns
— questions of an effective management".
Congress is
held with a support and an active participation of Moscow municipal Government.
Certainly, experience of development of one of the biggest cities in the World —
Moscow — provokes big interest.

IUE became of a great tradition.
On behalf of
Russian ambassador in Switzerland Congress participants were greeted by S.V.
Kudryavstev, counselor on the economy of Russian embassy in Switzerland.

he noted that Switzerland hosts a lot of various conferences, forums, where
usually Russia is broadly presented, and that given Congress is a noticeable
event, which contributes a lot to the Russia-Switzerland relations.

In conclusion
of the Congress work concluding remarks were given by G.H. Popov. After
analyzing the presented reports he paid peculiar attention on the questions of
long-term prospects of the towns development planning.
He said: “A
question of horizon and prospects of long-term management of town is both of
great importance and great complexity. Experience of our country shows – it is
necessary to orient towards the present-day living people, towards possibility
to create the conditions for them, and going too far – to look into the future.
In any case, I greet in every possible way the transition to long-term strategic
programs. But, speaking honestly, I do not see any other way but to plan this
future in three or four variants. We cannot bind ourselves with one variant of
development. We are to propose alternative plans of strategic development and to
say simultaneously – it is not us to realize them”.
All
presentations were of big interest. |
