Annual meeting'll be held on October 17 √ 26, 2003
International Union of Economists (IUE) is pleased to advise you that this year annual meeting'll be held on October 17 - 26, 2003. The theme of the meeting is "The role & place of the European cooperation in world economy development".

In the period from October 17 to 26, 2003 was held an annual Meeting of the International Union of Economists. The place of the meeting was the ship "Princess Katarina", which travelled along the cities in Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary in the frames of cruise along river Danube. The topic of the meeting was "Role and place of the European cooperation in the development of the world economy". The choice of such unusual place for the meeting was not occasional. Danube is intereuropean water arterial, which connects many countries of the continent. Each of these countries is interesting from social-economic, historical, cultural points of view. Germany is the third economic state in the world. After the world wars and separation, the country was united ten years ago and continuously increases its potential. Germany is an authoritative and powerful member of NATO, European Community, UN and supports in its policy own and European interests. Germany is an old political and economic partner of Russia, and these relations despite hard load of the past conflicts have good perspectives. Austria, Slovakia and Hungary are also old partners of Russia. Austria has bright culture and developed economy, traditional neutrality and traditional bridge between Eastern and Western Europe. Ex-countries from the socialist side Slovakia and Hungary will have to find their place in the current events in the European region. Hungary has already entered NATO and practically has become a member of the United Europe. Slovakia is no more at the edge of this process. These countries have problems, related to reconstruction of political and economic systems, and their experience is very important for economists, scientists and politicians of Russia. Slovakia and Hungary have their own particularities of the transition period, but there are also same features. Useful experience of this reconstruction is interesting for the elaboration of the strategy of economic development of Russia.
